Job Summary
Reporting to the Health and Wellness Manager, with additional lead
work direction from the Head Athletic Trainer, the Athletic Trainer
II works more independently while performing the full range of
clinical athletic training functions for the student athletes of
the 11 intercollegiate teams at Sonoma State University. The
incumbent has expertise in making clinical judgements regarding
injuries and treatments and is involved in program coordination,
assists in program development, coordinates or assigns other
Athletic Trainers and provide direction and training to less
experienced Athletic Trainers, and serves as backup especially in
the absence of the Head Athletic Trainer. Primary responsibilities
include athletic training room direction, recognition, evaluation
and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; athletic training room
administrative responsibilities and other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in athletic training, physical education,
kinesiology or related field of study or combination of education
and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Two years of experience providing athletic training at the high
school or college level as a certified Athletic Trainer required.
Course work in nutrition and sport psychology preferred. The
incumbent must possess and maintain a Board of Certification (BOC)
certification for Athletic Trainer and current certification, or
ability to obtain certification, in cardiopulmonary
resuscitation/automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) and First
Aid. Intermediate to advanced proficiency with computers and
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required. Knowledge of Google Suite,
ARMS, Healthy Roster, and PeopleSoft preferred. The incumbent must
successfully complete a pre-placement exam and must possess and/or
obtain and thereafter maintain a California Driver's License.
Salary and Benefits
This is a full time, exempt probationary position scheduled to work
11 months each year. The compensation for the 11 months of work
will be paid out over 12 months with the month of July observed.
Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience
and is anticipated to be in the range of $3,812 to $5,323 a
month.
In accordance with the California State University 11/12 pay plan,
the salary earned for months worked will ultimately be pro-rated to
an 11/12 salary schedule and paid over 12 months in equal
increments, with benefits covered for the entire 12 months. Under
the 11/12 schedule, the salary placement will not exceed $5,323 per
month, paid over 12 months with continuous benefits eligibility.
Should the starting date not coincide with a standard 11/12 pay
plan cycle, the employee will start at an equivalent full time
12-month salary rate with the month of July off unpaid and be
converted to the 11/12 rate in August 2023 with benefits covered
for the entire 12 months moving forward.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including

paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days
and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the
year.
