Job Description:

Under supervision of the PI, the Research Assistant will be responsible for managing sample flow and priorities in a laboratory conducting research on carbohydrate and lipid metabolism using specialized techniques to study dietary influences on chronic disease. Responsibilities include running multiple assays; data collection and reporting; coordination with research group members; and lab management.Performs highly specialized and advanced experiments and a complex variety of assays; ELISAs, Immunoaffinity assays, Western Blots, antibody purification, etcServes as a technical expert for troubleshooting assaysPrepares analytical reports relative to research dataMonitors progress of research projects and coordinates information between research group membersCalibrates, sets up, and maintains laboratory equipmentDevises methods for testing in the laboratory, as neededMaintains highly detailed records of the stages of development of tests and the final results thereofOperates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment and/or perform computer applicationsMaintains safe and efficient procedures in the laboratory; handle hazardous wasteProvides instruction and training to student researchersPerforms library research and assist in the preparation of grants and manuscriptsMaintain quality controls standards to preserve the integrity of data and findingsResearch Associate is also expected to maintain and implement laboratory methodsAssists and/or trains graduate students and others rotating through the lab; may be responsible for supervision and training of junior research personnel.A minimum of a BS or BA in molecular biology/biology/biochemistry or one of the biosciences and 2-7 years of comparable laboratory experience or a BS or MS in molecular biology/biology/biochemistry or one of the biosciences and 1-5 years of comparable laboratory experience. Candidate must have strong skills in immunoassays and related data analyses. Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, strong organizational ability, strong analytical skills, ability to meet deadlines, general computer skills and ability to use Microsoft office Can use language effectively to facilitate the exchange of ideas, exhibits respect and understand of others to maintain professional relationships, perform necessary experiments, and analyze and interpret results.
