Position Overview:

Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock Division is a global leader in manufacturing light rail vehicles, locomotives, and passenger coaches. The Manager of Project Material Operations leads a team responsible for ensuring material availability to meet production schedules and providing clear visibility to production managers.

This role collaborates with stakeholders across Engineering, Purchasing, Change Management, and Production to oversee planning, inventory, and material coordination. The Manager balances production demands with inventory goals, working closely with procurement and production teams to ensure smooth, efficient operations.

What your day may look like:

  • Lead and mentor a team of Project Material Managers, setting clear goals and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure material availability aligns with production schedules, proactively identifying and resolving potential delays.
  • Maintain clear, timely communication with production teams regarding material status and readiness.
  • Drive strategic planning for the Project Materials function, aligning with broader business objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams-including Engineering, Procurement, and Program Management-to resolve supply chain challenges.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure a reliable flow of materials and mitigate risks.
  • Analyze inventory trends and demand patterns to optimize stock levels and recommend effective replenishment strategies.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including inventory health, plan adherence, and excess & obsolete (E&O) metrics.
  • Develop contingency plans to ensure continuity of supply during disruptions or demand shifts.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including ISO and TL9000.

    What will make you successful:
    • 10+ years of experience in procurement, inventory control, and production planning, with proven leadership in a manufacturing environment.
    • Associate degree in a relevant field required; a bachelor's degree in business, manufacturing, or engineering is preferred.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to gather, interpret, and present complex business data to support decision-making.
    • Proficiency in SAP MRP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills; comfortable using other Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Experience in the rail manufacturing industry is highly desirable.
    • Familiarity with ISO 9000 standards; knowledge of TS16949 and AS9100 is a plus.

      • 10+ years of experience in materials planning and procurement within an engineer-to-order (ETO) manufacturing environment.
      • Bachelor's degree in business, manufacturing, engineering, or a related field preferred.
      • Strong leadership presence with the ability to guide teams through complex challenges and deliver innovative, data-driven solutions.
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a tenacious and assertive approach to problem-solving and collaboration.

          The base salary range for this position in Sacramento, CA is $134,400 - $165,000 plus an annual incentive target which is 10% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
